“We have a long and rewarding history with Tamtron, spanning over two decades. They provide us with scale systems and related services. Our latest project together was the launch of the digital mScales weighing service,” says Anna Nevalampi, HSY’s Operations Engineer.

Harri Oittinen, Sales Manager for truck and railway scale maintenance agreements at Tamtron, notes that the HSY account is a prime example of how durable equipment and the expertise of a comprehensive weighing solutions provider extend the life cycle of these systems.

“Four of HSY’s truck scales were initially introduced in the 1990s and have been modernized throughout our partnership. The customer also had a truck scale from Sweden, which the original provider couldn’t maintain. We converted it into a Tamtron scale and brought it under our maintenance scope.”

“For customers, it’s highly beneficial that purchased scales can be updated and digitalized without needing a full-scale replacement whenever efficiency requirements or regulations change,” Oittinen emphasizes.

Service agreement sets weighing solutions up for optimal modernization

HSY has a pro-level service agreement with Tamtron, covering features such as rapid response times in case of issues. Oittinen points out that for customers predictability and peace of mind are the main advantages of this agreement.

“With a service agreement, we can adjust the scope of responsibility to the customer’s preference. We can handle all aspects of scale maintenance, from annual servicing to required verifications, ensuring that the customer doesn’t need to track these separately.”

Through a service agreement, Tamtron gains a comprehensive understanding of the customer’s weighing solutions, enabling both proactive maintenance and timely modernization.

“We maintain a detailed maintenance history, collect life cycle assessments, and handle reporting. This gives us a solid foundation to recommend measures that maximize weighing efficiency at reasonable costs. This way, the customer moves from unexpected breakdowns to true life cycle management, and any modernization and digitalization needs can be planned into future budgets,” Oittinen explains.

Digital weighing solution optimizes organizational efficiency

HSY’s need to transition to a digital weighing service emerged when its previous weighing system would no longer have met the renewing reporting requirements mandated by waste legislation. To address this challenge, the organization implemented Tamtron’s mScales weighing service.

The service now covers ten truck scales and other weighing solutions. According to Anna Nevalampi, the transition was a major project that has significantly improved HSY’s operations and simplified daily processes.

“We have two different locations with various scale systems and loader weighing solutions. With mScales, we were able to integrate all systems into a single database, greatly streamlining data management across our organization.”

Weighing data management in real time

According to Nevalampi, Tamtron’s digital weighing service has brought HSY’s operations into the modern era, primarily by optimizing scale station functionality.

“Previously, we gathered inventory management data using various Excel spreadsheets and paper transfer documents. Now, data is automatically stored in the cloud, and weighing information is integrated into our billing system. All of this reduces manual errors and makes inventory management, reporting, and invoicing smooth and reliable.”

The benefits of mScales extend to HSY’s stakeholders as well. Automated weighing has freed resources from manual weighing tasks, allowing the organization to focus on other essential duties. From the customer’s perspective, the change is significant as they can now log into the digital service and monitor their loads in real time.
