Yara Eco Oy’s production facility in Nokia is the largest fly ash recycling plant in the Nordic countries. The company processes industrial by-products into efficient and environmentally friendly products for agriculture, forestry, earthworks, and environmental management.

Nutrient-rich ash from bioenergy plants is used in the production of fertilizers. The Nokia plant produces up to 130,000 tons of recycled fly ash annually, which is used primarily as a raw material for forest fertilizers.

Efficient fly ash processing with Tamtron’s fluidization technology

To improve the efficiency of Yara Eco Oy’s production process, Tamtron supplied fluid dosing devices for fly ash silos, whose base cones were equipped with fluid plates. Fly ash is transferred through a fluid cone and a flexible fluid hose and discharged into the process via a discharge box and a shut-off feeder.

Up to 15 tons of dry fly ash per hour is fed from the silo to a separate process. Tamtron’s technology enables the flow of material without mechanical parts – efficiently and without dust.

An innovative and maintenance-free solution for the transfer of fine-grained materials

Previously, fly ash was transferred from the bottom of the silo using mechanical screws. Now, Tamtron’s fluid technology uses a small amount of dry, low-pressure air, which is fed through fluid elements at the bottom of the silo cone to the interface between the silo and the fly ash.

The solution is based on the fluidization of the material: the ash behaves like a liquid and is transferred to the process by gravity – completely without motors or moving parts.

Benefits for Yara Eco

Tamtron’s fluidization solution is specially designed for the transfer of fine-grained bulk materials. It is energy-efficient, virtually maintenance-free, and environmentally friendly. The solution has brought concrete benefits to Yara Eco Oy:

  • More efficient production – improved process capacity and smoothness
  • Energy efficiency – the motor-free system consumes significantly less energy
  • Minimal maintenance – fluid elements and hoses do not wear out during use
  • Easy integration – the flexible fluid hose allows installation in existing structures
  • Effective dust control – production facilities and the environment remain clean
  • No material loss – ash is transferred accurately to the process without any loss

A sustainable solution that supports environmental goals

Fluidization technology not only improves production efficiency but also promotes sustainable development. When dust is kept under control and energy is saved, the environmental impact is reduced – while working conditions in production facilities improve.
