“We started piloting artificial intelligence six months ago at Rälssi’s soil and snow reception area. When a load arrives, a photo is taken from above and linked to the mScales weighing event. Artificial intelligence analyses the image and identifies the material in the load. It can also distinguish between materials that do not belong there, such as plastic or municipal waste. The driver receives an alert if any unusual contents are detected in the load. ‘The AI used in mScales’ material identification is constantly evolving, so its accuracy is constantly improving, ‘ says Development Engineer Ilkka Hurme.

Weighbridge solutions ensure smooth traffic flow and weighing management

Since its inception, Salpamaa has been working with Tamtron on truck scales and their maintenance. In 2021, Salpamaa needed a reliable, mobile solution to replace its old weighing system. The solution chosen was Tamtron’s truck scale combined with the mScales weighing service, which enables seamless and real-time data transfer and flexible use at different locations.

Salpamaa now has four Tamtron truck scales, which handle nearly 50,000 weighings and load registrations annually. Relational scales are crucial in load traffic control and accurate material management.

“We have a wide range of weighing needs – in some locations, vehicles are weighed, while in others, snow is measured in cubic metres. mScales adapts perfectly to these needs. Everything is done on mobile devices, and drivers and customers have praised the system for its ease of use. The electronic transfer document has also been an excellent addition for us – we can offer it to our customers free of charge and automatically transfer it to the authorities’ register,” says Processing Manager Heidi Ranttila.
